Product Description
Wood slat acoustic panel (also known as slatted acoustic panel) is a decorative sound-absorbing panel manufactured by arranging solid wood slats or MDF/WPC slats at uniform spacing over an acoustic felt backing (typically PET polyester fiber acoustic mat), bonded together through high-temperature and high-pressure lamination. The core sound absorption principle is that sound waves entering through the gaps between slats are absorbed by the porous fiber structure of the backing, where sound energy is converted into heat through friction and viscous resistance within the fiber pores, effectively reducing reverberation time and eliminating echo.
The typical structure consists of:
Slat Layer: Solid wood, MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard), or WPC (Wood-Plastic Composite) slats, finished with wood veneer, PVC film, or spray coating for decorative purposes
Acoustic Felt Backing: High-density polyester fiber (PET) acoustic mat with a porous fiber structure, typically 8-12mm thick, which is the core of the sound absorption function
Gaps: Uniform spacing between slats (typically 12-50mm), which determines the acoustic performance of the panel
The slats and backing are available in various colors to suit different interior design styles. The panels meet E0/ENF environmental standards and Class B1 fire rating. They are widely used in indoor spaces that require both acoustic optimization and aesthetic appeal.

Installation Methods
Wood slat acoustic panels are easy to install. Three methods are available based on wall conditions and application scenarios:
|
Installation Method |
Description |
Suitable Scenarios |
|
Adhesive Mount (Direct Bonding) |
Apply eco-friendly structural adhesive (MS adhesive, construction adhesive) evenly to the backing, then press onto flat walls. Drying time approx. 12 hours |
Flat walls, small areas, fast installation |
|
Screw Fixation (Direct Fixing) |
Use self-tapping screws through the backing to fix panels to walls. Countersink screw heads into backing or use color-matched screws. 12-20 screws per panel |
Drywall, wood walls, applications requiring strong fixation |
|
Furring Strip Installation (Recommended) |
First install wood or light steel furring strips (approx. 600mm spacing), then fix panels to strips with screws. The cavity between panel and wall can be filled with acoustic wool for enhanced sound absorption |
Uneven walls, applications requiring higher acoustic performance, large areas |
Installation Steps (Adhesive Mount):
Clean the wall surface—ensure dry, flat, and free of dust/oil
Mark layout lines on the wall according to design
Apply eco-friendly structural adhesive evenly on the backing (use a notched trowel or strip/dot method)
Press the panel onto the wall along layout lines, level with a spirit level
Join adjacent panels tightly, ensuring slats are aligned (slat alignment is critical for visual appeal)
Use temporary supports to hold for 12 hours until adhesive fully cures
Installation Steps (Furring Strip Installation - Recommended):
Mark guidelines on wall, install wood or light steel furring strips at 400-600mm spacing, level them
(Optional) Fill cavities between strips with fiberglass or rock wool to enhance sound absorption
Fix wood slat acoustic panels to furring strips with self-tapping screws through the backing
Ensure slats align when joining adjacent panels; seal panel joints with acoustic sealant
Finish edges with trim profiles or corner moldings
Clean the surface—installation complete
Important Notes:
Allow panels to acclimate in the room for 48 hours before installation to adapt to ambient temperature and humidity
Use a fine-tooth saw blade when cutting; cut the backing with a utility knife
For adhesive mount, ambient temperature should be above 5°C, humidity ≤85%
Slat alignment is critical for wood slat acoustic panels—use a spirit level frequently during installation
Key Advantages & Features
01 High Sound Absorption & Noise Reduction
The porous fiber structure of the polyester backing provides excellent sound absorption performance. NRC reaches 0.80-0.95, effectively reducing reverberation time, eliminating echo, and improving speech intelligibility. The gaps between slats allow sound waves to directly reach the acoustic backing layer, achieving far higher absorption efficiency than standard wood veneer panels.
02 Zero Formaldehyde & Eco-Friendly
PET backing is made from recycled polyester fiber; slats are made from E0-grade MDF or solid wood with no added formaldehyde. Meets ENF/E0 standards—safe for immediate occupancy, harmless to human health.
03 Class B1 Fire Retardant
PET backing achieves ASTM E84 Class A, self-extinguishing with no melting drips or toxic smoke emission. Complies with public building fire safety codes. Solid wood slats can achieve Class A fire rating.
04 Decorative & Aesthetic
Slat surfaces are finished with natural wood veneer, engineered veneer, or PVC film, preserving the authentic texture and grain of real wood. The gap design creates a unique linear pattern that combines modern style with natural warmth, matching a wide range of interior design styles.
05 Quick & Easy Installation
Pre-engineered design with backing and slats pre-bonded into a single panel—simply fix the entire panel to walls or ceilings. Adhesive mounting, screw fixing, or furring strip installation are all viable options, offering high construction efficiency.
06 Moisture & Mold Resistant
PET backing is non-absorbent and does not develop mold. Slats are treated for moisture resistance, suitable for indoor environments with higher humidity (avoid direct water contact).
07 Wear-Resistant & Scratch-Resistant
The surface is coated with a durable wear layer (UV coating or melamine film), resistant to daily use marks and easy to clean.
08 Widely Applicable
Whether for home theater accent walls, living room feature walls, or commercial spaces like conference rooms, recording studios, hotel lobbies, and restaurants, customized acoustic designs can be achieved through different slat widths, spacing, and colors.
